This week in ISM I presented my research speech. I was very happy to show my peers why anesthesiology interests me as this was the first chance that I have gotten to explain to them in depth what I am researching. I explained how anesthesia works and each of the main components as well as what they are used for and what affects a patient's vulnerability to anesthesia. I was elated to see that as I continued talking, my classmates seemed to become more interested in what I was saying as this demonstrated to me that I loved the information enough to present the topic in a way that made others interested as well even if they originally had no interest in my topic. Also, I performed my second research interview today with a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and board member Bree Brown. Mrs. Brown was very helpful and provided me with context as to what is the difference between her profession and an anesthesiologist, as well as how her position differs from other CRNAs as she oversees around 300 CRNAs in north Texas from her Dallas office as well as performing in the operating room. Mrs. Brown also gave me very valuable information on certain medications she has seen that cause substantial amounts of POCD, so I will continue to focus on that for my final product.
