This week in ISM, we had the professional business symposium. I felt very fortunate to attend this event, and it was very encouraging to be at an event that had so many students with the same ambition and formality as me and I felt like every student attending that event felt the same way that I did. While networking with the professionals who volunteered to assist us, I did not meet any medical professionals, however, I did meet a wide variety of successful people who each gave great advice and were happy to tell me about their experiences within their individual feilds. They also provided vital experience for me and my peers that will prepare us for research interviews in our own time. One interview that I found particularly beneficial was an interview with FISD's CTE coordinator, Travis Volk, as it was very interesting to see how by reading the other person with the interview skills that we have been given in ISM, we can make the interview feel more comfortable and find out more about the person we are interviewing. Mr Volk told me about his education, his reasons for becoming an assistant principal in FISD, and also why he decided to move to the CTE Center. I was happy to inform him about the duties we have in ISM, how it has been beneficial so far, and also what I'm looking forward to within the program. Overall, the symposium provided ISM students with the vital experience needed to conduct research interviews and find a mentor.
