Midazolam

Also known as versed, midazolam is an intravenous anesthetic and benzodiazepine. it is usually used before surgery to calm patients down. This is one of the most commonly associated medications with POCD.

Midazolam, when administered to patients as a preparational anesthetic, results in visible cognitive dysfunction in all age groups.

This essay explains the significance of the score difference between those given Midazolam and those who were not, and why even though the authors of the article would disagree, there is more than enough evidence/ representation of a pattern to state that Midazolam is a probable cause of cognitive dysfunction.

In the graph, the patients in group M (dark grey) were given midazolam. It is evident that though the scores may be close, there is no denying that Midazolam has a serious impact on cognitive function compared to other anesthetists.
